I was a bit of an art class nerd in high school. I was always much more comfortable with a sketch book and charcoal then I ever was with my math textbook (or science textbook for that matter). back then, we didn’t have iPhones or Instagram, but capturing important moments became important to me around this time.
after enrolling in a photography course in high school, being gifted my first SLR (film then!) and learning dark room processing, I was hooked. I loved capturing textures, landscapes and macro shots of flowers, but I was never brave enough to take on a client, much less entertain the idea of doing this as a career. I moved into a “steady career” climbing the ladder and checking the boxes, but it wasn’t until I had my daughter that I really felt like enough was enough, and pushed myself to take the leap into this career I’ve dreamed of for so long.
my absolute favourite thing to capture is emotions and especially moments of pure joy, and children do not hold back when it comes to wearing their emotions all over their faces.
I love working with babies and children, and tend to work with rich, earthy tones. I believe that there is beauty in the every day, and some of my most treasured images are ones where there was absolutely no preparation – wild hair, messy clothes, limbs flailing everywhere.
does this resonate with you? I’d love to chat with you about your next portrait session!
