It took a Facebook Buy/Sell group to get us here – and I’m not mad about it. What started out as a request for portrait photographer recommendations on Facebook led to so much more.

You see, she was looking for a photographer to capture her and her boyfriend before he leaves town to another city for hockey, but after talking with this amazing young woman, we decided to do two sessions – one portrait session focusing solely on her, and another at a later date to include him.

Let me tell you a little secret about women, especially young women – they need to see how beautiful, strong, and individual they are. This was her first portrait session, and I could sense her nerves at the start, but as she relaxed and leaned into it, this strong, capable, and independent woman appeared before me. This is it – the reason I love portrait sessions.

I love photographing my babies, and family sessions – but this was truly special.

It’s not your typical school photo, it’s not even your typical portrait session. This captures personality, and this very moment in time – before university, first jobs, marriage, kids… this is it.

Has it been a few years since your family had updated portraits? Do you rely on the old school photos to do the trick? Let’s move on from that stoic, posed carbon copy, blue background shtick, and get into something that is reflective of who you are.
