The most amazing thing to me about photography is when you are trusted with those big life moments… you know, the ones you can never get back… like your wedding day for example. It’s both totally amazing, and totally terrifying – especially when you’re really still getting your feet wet in the business. Even more especially when you can’t meet face-to-face with the Bride and Groom until a few days before their big day!
Bridie, the Bride, contacted me when her and her fiancee were planning their wedding day here in Squamish, all the way from New Zealand, and despite feeling completely overwhemingly excited about it, I was nervous. All of the “what-ifs” raced through my mind following that initial e-mail right up until the day we finally met in person, but I had made a promise to myself to chase this dream of mine, and so I said yes!
I’m so happy that I did, because the day was beautiful, and Bridie, Melani and their families are some of the sweetest people around.
The morning before the wedding, we headed up to Whistler and did an engagement session at Nita Lake Lodge. Just that little bit further North of Squamish, and we entered a Winter Wonderland! It made for some of the most beautiful images, and we laughed about the juxtaposition of two people living in NZ having snowy pictures to hang on the wall!
The engagement session was the perfect way for everyone to relax and get to know each other before the wedding day. Of course it was freezing cold, but these two braved it like champions!
The morning of the wedding the weather was a bit on the damp side (it wouldn’t be BC if we weren’t always prepared for the rain!). If it bothered Bridie, you wouldn’t know it – she was truly as laid-back and happy as she seemed through correspondence! She was beautiful, and having a blast with her bridesmaids and family.
The ceremony was at St. Joseph’s Church in Squamish, and we got some beautiful portraits of the newly-wed couple before the party started at the Executive Inn.
Since they were married, they have also welcomed a beautiful baby girl, and are planning to relocate to England as Melani joins the Worcester Warriors – SO MANY congratulations to this beautiful couple, on a seriously amazing few months, and thank you for inviting me to capture your day!
